A Random Story about How I became a Stock Model and I ended up being a face of a Bank
A while back one of the #MoneyMagic students found out that I am a stock model because she just randomly got sent pictures of me for a tourism campaign and she was like: what?
A few months ago, I found out I was the face of a campaign for Standard and Chartered Bank in Botswana.
I did one of my friends in Chiang Mai a favor - she asked me to model for her as a stock model and a few months later I was getting tagged by people in Botswana on the bank page.
Basically this is a story of a photo taken in #Thailand by a Thai photographer, of a South African woman (who happens to teach personal finance) in 2019 and then used in #Botswana in 2020 for a banking campaign.
All this actually started because I once lived in Chiang Mai and who knows, maybe this becomes a side hustle for me one day.
I have so many random travel stories. One day I will write a book of the many weird and cool things that have happened just because I hopped on a plane.
When I shared this story on social media, people advised me to contest the use of my photos by the bank; I refused because...
1. These photographs were taken as a favor for a friend, for her stock photography and I gave her permission to use them as she wants to grow her stock photography business.
She asked me several times if I understood what I was consenting to and I said yes.
I don't regret that decision. My intention with that photoshoot is coming to pass - her business is growing.
I do a lot of favors for a lot of friends and one of the side favors I do is modeling. I have had professional photographers ask me to pose for them in various countries (Trinidad, India, Souh Korea, Thailand) and my photos end up in interesting places.
I guess I fancy myself a muse.
2. My spirit is literally unbothered because I don't think this is a coincidence.
My journey and #WealthyMoney's journey evolves in interesting ways.
So now I'm literally a spectator and wondering what will unfold from this because I am curious.
Let me tell you how I got a publishing deal with Jacana Media…
I was in a Catholic convent in Durban in the middle of my coaching session with a Bishop, coaching him through the #GodWound.
And in the middle of this session, I hear from my guides that I should give the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) one of my poems on suicide, to use for free.
After the session I sent SADAG an email and attached the poem and told them they should use it as they want and continued on with my life.
They called to thank me and then nothing happened for a year. I even forgot about that incident.
A year later, 5 mins after putting the final full stop on "Heart, Mind & Money" (my book), SADAG contacted me and asked me to be their media spokesperson on various TV talk shows to talk about depression.
I had 2 days to get to Joburg and do this.
I said yes and was very intentional about those shows - I wanted to connect with people and talk about how vipasssana helped me. I also wanted to get "Heart, Mind & Money" published and I didnt want to deal with an agent or even write letters to a publisher.
On one of the shows, the host asked me what I did for a living. I told her I’d just finished writing a book a few days ago and was looking for a publisher.
That day a publisher was watching the show, they got my contact details, connected me to Jacana Media and 4 months later my book was in stores and Wealthy Money slowly came to life.
I have many more such stories, especially in my travels.
Like the day I missed my train from Hue to Da Nang, in #Vietnam and had to be in Hoi An town in time for a meeting early the next day.
I got guidance from the ether to just sit at the train station and chill, 30 mins later a Vietnamese man walked up to me and asked me if I wanted a lift to Hoi An.
I paid him his fee and got to Hoi An just fine.
Call me crazy or a terrible business woman, but I’m just curious about the fact that a bank in Botswana used these pictures.
It could have been any other company in any other industry, somewhere else in the world because these pictures were taken in Thailand by a Thai photographer, but it just so happens to be a company in my niche, in a neighboring country where I have a lot of clients.
It's not the path to visibility that I would have chosen for myself but my gut tells me to chill and see if there is any magic that springs forth from this.
I have set an intention for these pictures and will let that intention go and see what unfolds. I am sure there will be stories to share about this in a few years.
